Creating a healthy mindset for the holidays

Our mindset matters all year round.

But the holiday season is a perfect time to evaluate where our mindset currently stands, and how we can work on developing it. Our mindset - and how we are thinking about our health and fitness goals - influences how successfully we navigate this season, and where we end up on January 1st.

Our goal - during the holidays, yes, but really all year round - is to focus on developing a positive, growth mindset.

What do we mean by a “positive” mindset?

We mean that we take a positive approach when faced with challenges. By nurturing an optimistic outlook and sense of gratitude, a positive mindset equips us with a purpose-driven perspective and allows us to navigate obstacles with grace (for ourselves!), enthusiasm, and determination.

What do we mean by a “growth” mindset?

A growth mindset is what empowers us with the capacity to embrace change, evolve through continuous learning, and cultivate creativity. It means rather than believing we “can’t” lose weight (and that’s just the way it is), we know we are capable of learning and adapting. Rather than sticking to what we know, we try new things and embrace new challenges. A growth mindset is the cornerstone for self-improvement and adaptation.

Work on cultivating a positive, growth mindset throughout this season. And then, once it’s over, take a moment to reflect and ask yourself:

  1. How were your decisions this year different from decisions you would’ve made in the past?

  2. What is one small change you might make the next time around?

This is the positive, growth mindset in action.

And remember: our objective is not to miss out on life’s special moments for the sake of our fitness goals. It is to be consistent enough day in and day out that we are able to enjoy these moments without a second thought. :)
